I’m Dr. Jasper Heaton (sometimes known as Jas), a philosopher working at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Langara College in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I earned my PhD in Philosphy from UBC, where I worked under the supervision of Prof. Carrie Jenkins. You can learn about my doctoral work here.

I work in feminist and transfeminist philosophy, primarily on questions at the intersection of metaphysics and epistemology. I am particularly interested in how people’s self-identities can be acts of political resistance against oppression and domination. I am also exceedingly interested in the epistemic and metaphysical conditions for epistemic resistance, and how resistant knowers can counter systematic ignorance and political polarization. I organize and host the ongoing series, Does Theory Help Us Get Free? We are a group of academics and non-academics who meet regularly in Vancouver to engage with cutting-edge research from local scholars and activists. You can learn about us here. You can also sign up to my free Substack here.
